Comme vous le savez, deux pays veulent entrer dans l'Union Européenne. Ces deux pays sont la Turquie et la Croatie qui massacrent des chiens en masse, les laissant mourir de maladies, de faim et de soif dans des refuges dont les autorités ont fermé l'accès.

Des charniers ont été découverts en Turquie. Bon nombre de chiens et chiots ont été enterrés vivants.
Ces abominations doivent cesser ! Nous sommes en l'an 2008, plus au Moyen âge !

This letter is an appeal; an appeal for help for the martyred dogs of Beykoz (Turkey) and Croatia.

If we are contacting you today, it is because you are our only hope to save these animals that are in great distress and suffering enormously.

We are stunned and horrified to discover the unbearable images of what is known as the Death Camp of Beygoz. Yes, it exists! Hundreds of dogs are dying of hunger, thirst, cruelty, illness, even of plague. There are also a large number of pups. Through lack of food, packs of dogs are devouring each other. It also appears that some dogs are buried alive. This we can believe, due to the mass graves which can be seen in the photos. We beg you to look at the following site, which denounces, helplessly, all these atrocities:

We have learned all this via the site, but also thanks to two contacts living in Turkey who are alarmed by these crimes which are being carried out, unpunished, especially as another mass grave has just been discovered in Antalya.

Is it acceptable that counties which are candidates to join the European Community can act with such barbarity? These countries are TURKEY and CROATIA.

Mr. Muharrem Ergul, Mayor of Beykoz (Turkey) has closed the dog shelter in Beykoz, abandoning 1600 dogs without help or care. The doors are guarded by a security force, forbidding the few volunteers from the town to bring their help to these poor animals.

Croatia has acted in the same way, in a dog shelter in Benkovac, abandoning 100 starved dogs to devour each other and die of thirst and illness.

It is unthinkable that these two countries be permitted to join the European Community, because we consider that Europe should be representative of values such as: Justice, Fraternity and Freedom, to allow our Europe to set an example to other Nations.

Animals also have rights, and these rights are flouted by these two countries.

This Europe, which we wish unified and acting responsibly towards animals, is this just a dream?

We are sending you this letter today to inform you that we, European citizens, wish an end to these abominations which render our existence unbearable. We are also writing in the name of those who protest against suffering and deliberate tortures inflicted on animals. We humbly ask you to use your influence and authority to come to the aid of these dogs. We beg you to act on their behalf, in the name of the respect to which each living being has a right: that of living in peace and in happiness.

Today, the words of Mr. Ghandi have never made so much sense: "The greatness of a nation is measured by the way it treats its animals".

Sir, Madam, we cannot remain indifferent to so much suffering, which these defenceless creatures endure permanently. In our soul and conscience, we must help them in the name of our Humanity.

This Europe in which we live, this Europe for which we struggle, has the power and the duty to act for these dogs. This Europe, in which we place our hopes, will it disappoint us?

Please Sir, Madam, have a look at these dogs, because they are counting on us, on you.

We desperately hope that this letter will awaken your compassion, to enable urgent measure to be taken to free these dogs, the best friends of man, from their merciless suffering.
